Builds on the strengths of the previous simplex spelling app but seems to have more depth to it and a few other improvements. Great app!

What We Liked: I am a dedicated teacher of phonics as the primary method of instruction for both reading and spelling in our homeschool but I have had a hard time finding apps that do phonics well. Simplex Spelling Phonics 1 is certainly one of the best, most intensive spelling apps that I’ve found. My daughter (8) loves that she can use this app independently to learn phonetic patterns of spelling that we haven’t yet covered together in our one-on-one learning times, but because it includes excellent direct instruction, this app can be used as a primary source of phonetic spelling instruction. My favorite part of the app are the detailed explanations of phonetic concepts and rules, particularly the additional explanations that are available by clicking the white starburst in the phonics hints for each letter, and the arrow bars connecting silent e’s with the vowels they influence. Most children learn well by recognizing patterns and the introduction of one phonics sound or pattern for each lesson helps children by grouping words together by sound and spelling pattern, making long-term retention more likely. What We Didn’t Like: I don’t think there is anything to really dislike here! My one caveat would be that the word lists span at least three grades, there isn’t a lot of depth given for any of the phonetic concepts, so if you have a kindergarten child, he’ll move through all the cvc offerings fairly quickly an the rest of the app will have to wait until grade one (unless your child is a precocious speller!) We are using it with my third-grader who isn’t a strong speller so that isn’t an issue for us, we’ve jumped in on phonograms she hasn’t used in her spelling yet because you can choose any of the 42 lists. Parents might also want to note that there isn’t any direct teaching of syllabification/open syllables in this app, though many other phonics patterns are explicitly taught with the hints option. Overall: Simplex Spelling Phonics 1 is one of the most powerful spelling apps for phonics I’ve ever used. The arrangement of 450 high frequency words according to phonetic sounds and principles, the self-correcting, direct-instruction, statistics, multiple users – it meets ALL of my criteria. I had the simplex spelling sight words app which we really like, so I automatically bought the new phonics app. It is more than I could have wished for! Easy to use, verbal directions for how to use the app, and very clear lessons for all the phonics sounds. I am so happy that I bought this app and look forward to Phonics 2 so we can have more vocabulary to practice with!

I love this app. I use it in the classroom. The kids like it too. The only suggestion I would make is more user accounts. I have 22 students and can only make 9 accounts.

It is very educational with great style.I strongly recommend this app to everyone who wants to learn words through the phonics method . It would be more than 5 star if developer could add an exam for each part without HINTS . so parents can really evaluate the learning process.

Love your app. My kids love practicing their spelling. Any chance you could set it up so we could use our bluetooth keyboard to enter the spelling words? Also, would love a greater variety of spelling words in each group. Other wise great!

Love the multi user feature! This is going to be a great tool for our homeschool family!

The interface is simple and clear. As an ELL teacher, I love that I can program multiple users so that my students can all have their own accounts. The audio is easy to understand, and the phonics lessons are comprehensive. Great app!

What can you say. My boys are excited to play or watch anything. (They are TV and game deprived.) Even with that this game managed to capture their interest for 3 minutes tops...can I get my money back?

This is perfect for my 6 year old homeschooler! We love it, his spelling has improved tremendously. Highly recommend.

We just downloaded and my daughter really liked it and enjoyed, shes being playing with her friends and its fantastic that has the option for multiple users. I like that you can choose the list of words that you want for spelling.

This really is a great phonics app! I love how easy it is to understand how to play and the directions are very clear. I dont think you can make your own lists, from what I can tell…that would be one thing I would like to see. But, they do give lots of great lists already, I have to say! This one is a bit hard for my little one with severe autism, but I can see this one working for her after we get some more basics down first. Im looking forward to trying the other Spelling one with my boys who are a bit older, but again, wondering if I can add my own lists? I love that they can work on building the word and knowing right away if their choices were correct or not, important for learning to spell.

This again is hands down one of the best spelling apps for learning phonemic awareness thats have ever used with my students. I work with students with Autism and this has helped bring their sight words up to near grade level. They love to work and spell out their words. They are happy to use the program, they never feel of it as hard work and ask for it by name. I would recommend this app to everyone! I love that it goes through all the different phonetic sounds and allows for students to learn by sounding words out.

I work overseas in an International school. This app has helped my ESL students as well as my students that struggle with dyslexia. Using the app is like working one on one with a native speaker. It enables the kids to work independently and they really enjoy seeing their progress and tapping on the success messages. It makes spelling multisensory; using the auditory, visual and kinesthetic learning channels which really helps kids remember the spelling rules. I love how the app has spelling lists organized by phonetic sounds and rules. I was so excited when I saw a list for the "floss rule"! At a glance, it shows you where each student is struggling and what they have mastered. This app is a must have for teachers or parents working with struggling readers.

This is a great and excellent spelling apps. The narrators voice is very clear and easy to understand. The words variation are great and it will keep the kids busy for a while. You can easily keep track of results and see what words you need to review or concentrate on. Highly recommended.

You can create users and track their progress throughout the app. There are 42 spelling lists targetting rules of English spelling (phonics). If they added the ability to add your own spelling list, this app would be perfect!
